Observing, Drawing and Note-taking
How fleeting is a day in the garden! Part of its charm is its evanescence; part of us wants to preserve, to remember and communicate our experience. Photographs only go so far; to really capture the essence of the garden takes time to carefully observe, using all our senses. Seeing color, drawing shapes, feeling temperature and texture, hearing human voices and birdsong, smelling scents both pleasant and strong, all go onto the paper of our sketchbook. Don’t worry about your drawing experience, simplicity and speed are what’s called for. Enjoy making a diary of nature in the place and time of the moment. Learn to keep a nature journal for daytrips, travel and your own garden, no matter how small, all year round.
Bring your Plant Printed Journal (June 27 class), your own sketchbook or purchase a small one from instructor. Bring your favorite drawing pens and pencils; watercolors are encouraged.
