Learn How to Make A Living Willow Fence
Date and Time: To be announced for 2009 (One Day Class, Two hours)
Class Fee and Supply Fee: To be announced later
Instructor: Shannon Hartzog
The living willow fence is a fun addition to any garden. It
is as versatile as an art piece could be. You will learn
the basics of constructing and maintaining a fence in your garden
at home. Once the fence has taken root and started growing,
you will be able to manipulate the shape and character of the fence
each year at pruning time. The fence will continue to grow
in height and girth as the years go on and will become an incredibly
sturdy garden art wall over a few years time. Come join us
for a fun time constructing an addition to Bassetti’s gardens
that will grow and change every year. You will go home with enough
willow to create a 5-10’ fence in your home garden.

I have enjoyed learning about basketry and creating pieces of functional
art for the home and garden for the past 7 years. I live
in Mountlake Terrace with my family where I have recently retired
from my 18 year home childcare business and am now working as
an organic gardener and a dog wrangler. I have a 5 acre
farm at the base of Lord Hill in Snohomish where I keep
my horses and gardens where willow, cut flowers, berries and
vegetables are grown. It is also the home of my beautiful
laying hens for which I keep for entertainment and delicious
eggs. I have been designing and making baskets and obelisks at
Bassetti’s Garden Art Show for the last two years and will
be at the show again this year. I have also conducted classes
at other venues.
